The Arctic Tundra is a very serene place, covered in a thick blanket of snow and ice. The word "tundra" comes from the Finnish word "tunturia", which means a barren land.
A layer of hardened snow and ice, called "permafrost" is one of the few reasons that hardly anything lives there.
The Arctic Tundra is one of the world's largest carbon dioxide sink, due to the amount of ice to hold in CO2, and how long the ice exists before it melts.
